Gandhi : Question 7

How Gandhi resited totalitarism: He organized protest by farmers, urban laboures, he assumed the leadership of Indian National Congress and he implemented campaigns to ease poverty, woman rights, build religious and ethnic amity, he swore to talk the truth and advocate others to do the same, he ate vegetarian food as a social protest, he protested against racism, his major resist to the totalitarian governments was the principle of NON- VIOLENCE. He boycotted the foreign goods especially British goods, he encourage people to boycotted British educational institutions, he exhorted all the people of the CIVIL DESOBEDIENCE and when the British government appointed a new constitutional reform without included any Indian Gandhi and people boycotted the commission and after that they won the independence and the British government negotiated with Gandhi to free all the political prisoners.
It is amazing how the power of one can made a difference and change the situation of one country.

Totalitarian Countries : Question 2 and 3

     Cuba, North Korea, Romania and Russia all of those countries have these points in common: there is not freedom of speech or expression, not freedom of religion, not freedom of press all human rights are abolished many people and political prisoners are tortured or executed, fear and intimidation keep the people in check. Their presidents Fidel Castro, Kim Jong Il, Nicole Ceausescu and Joseph Stalin have being impose their power, rude manners, ambition to control and manipulate the people by executions, torture, imprisonment, spying on the people, starvation, not freedom of technology, not travel overseas. For example North Korea has succeeded in producing a sort of new race by starving and stunned dwarves keeping them in dark, kept people illiterate and fearful and brainwashed into hating others. Even today they are not allowed to use any kind of technology; most of annual budget is funneled to the military while the people suffer.

The West made many attempts in North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons in exchange for food and economic help but Kim Jon Il keeps holding out for more. In Cuba Fidel remains in power for more than 50 years and his image appears in stores, classrooms, national T.V and taxicabs during his regime all newspapers were closed and radio and T.V under control.
In Cuba law limits freedom of expression, association assembly and movement of press, Cuba is officially atheist, the government maintains tight control in religious institutions, the prisoners were ill treated with electroconvulsive therapy without anesthesia. Cuba deny to the International Committee of Red Cross access to its prisoners. Cuba was named one of the ten most censored countries in the world, citizens cannot leave or return to Cuba without obtains official permission.
Joseph Stalin rewrites the history changing information in textbooks and photographs as they never existed. He increase the scope and power with secret police and intelligent agencies infiltrate in others countries to ensure that they remain pro Stalin, Nicole Ceausescu during his regime the ordinary people starved while he and his family lived a lavish lifestyle in a luxurious palace thousands of people were torture or killed for political reasons, some were held as psychiatric patients, he encourage families to spy on each others, the economy in these countries is struggling but the governments posses modern nuclear or sophisticate weapons while the people died by famine and starvation.
Any similarity with the novel 1984 of George Orwell is merely causality.

What I Know of God is This

Milton Acorn
From:   Dig Up My Heart: Selected Poems 1952-83. Toronto: McClelland and Stewart, 1983. p.181.
What I know of God is this:
That He has hands, for He touches me.
I can testify to nothing else;
Living among many unseen beings
Like the whippoorwill I'm constantly hearing
But was pointed out to me just once.

Last of our hopes when all hope's past
God, never let me call on Thee
Distracting myself from a last chance
Which goes just as quick as it comes;
And I have doubts of Your omnipotence.
All I ask is... Keep on existing
Keeping Your hands. Continue to touch me.

regime of august pinochet and 1984

in 1973 pinochet was ascended to commander chief of Chilean army by the president Allende, in september he overthrew Allende and seize control of the cuntry,during his military goverment human rigths were violated, he killed thousands of people executions, disapearences and prosecutions by the caravan of the deadth. Thousands of people fled the country, civil liberties were abolishedas a strikes, unions and the national congress disolved.
Fear took over the population and anyone who felt brave to opposit the goverment was take out at the middle of the night and dumped in the sea. Pinochet was accused of being facist.However at the end of his dictatorship Chile was economically successful in latinoamerica he achieve macroeconomic.
1984 and Pinochet regime are very similars in both the reing of fear, torture, disapearences, executions were very noticeable. However Chile people even in sate of poverty they had normal food not artificial food like people in 1984 and their economical conditions improve Chile become economically successful something that did not happended in 1984 and his period of dictartorship end after 17 years in 1990 while in 1984 Big Brother geverment didn't end.
